Healthy food from own "kitchen garden"
In a CSA you can together with many others grow healthy food. Vegetables and berries are grown according to organic principles. Children and adults can together get a better understanding for, and proximity to, how the food is produced. It is a cooperation between farmer and shareholder. At Austrått CSA the farmers contribute with soil, machines and other equipment. The shareholders participate in all parts of the food production - seeding, planting, weeding, and of course harvesting when the time comes. In the weed control we use traditional mechanical methods, but we also have good experiences with a biodegradable film made of corn.
With us the CSA has two concepts:
- Shareholders reap their part of the crop.
- Parcel owners rent a clarified parsel, but have all the responsibility for the cultivating themselves.
The children can contribute in seeding and planting their own vegetables in pallet collars in their own area. There it is focused on "fun" growths as coloured
carrots, sunflowers, cucumber, snow peas and strawberries.
Austrått CSA is one of many
Internationally the term Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has existed for decades. In Norway this cultivation method has not been of interest before the last ten years. Now the interest is increasing. When we started Austrått CSA in 2016 we were one of 18 new CSAs that year. andelslandbruk.no.
Austrått Agrotourism and the CSA
As a part of a stay at Austrått Agrotourism you own a family share in the CSA and can at any time harvest the available vegetables or berries. During summer time we often organize voluntary work among the shareholders. Our guests are welcome to participate if you want to. Both children and grown-ups show up when we publish the convening.
